The Aylesbury Youth Motor Project Limited

Registered Charity Number: 1106085
Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

Aylesbury Youth Motor Project Ltd was set up in 2005 and is a Registered Charity, a Limited Company and an approved IMI centre.

Disaffected and disengaged young people, usually between the ages of 12 – 24 years of age, attend and benefit from working in small groups and re-engaged in learning using motor vehicles as an aid.

The young people are treated as adults at the project and as time passes they build the trust and respect needed to help them succeed.

They learn to carry out basic maintenance tasks on cars and through this also helpsto build their confidence and self-esteem, enabling them to either re-engage in formal education or prepare for further education or employment.

Aylesbury Youth Motor Project provides an opportunity for young people from Bucks and the surrounding areas to access courses in motor vehicle in an adult work-style environment, gaining qualifications as well as experience of the world of work.

The courses we offer include Entry Level 3 and Level 1 with the Institute of Motoring Industry and Level 1 with the Awarding Body Consortium and they are tailored to meet the individual needs and capabilities of the young person concerned.

Functional Skills Courses with the IMI for Maths, English and IT are due to be launched in September 2018.

The students are referred to the project as an Alternative Provision.

They come from mainstream schools, Pupil Referral Units and Special Needs schools and departments and some are referred by statutory agencies such as Adviza(Connections) and Youth Offending Service.

Most of our students begin their journey with us with low self-esteem, poor personal achievements and very limited expectations for future employment.

A high percentage also have some learning behavioural and difficulties , placing them “at risk” and often leading to offending behaviour.

The courses provide the chance to gain usable skills for future employment or work-based training and they also dramatically increase their motivation and their communication skills.

Whilst attending Aylesbury Youth Motor Project many young people have their first opportunity to take control of their future.

We are fortunate in having community links with companies which can offer future employment and work experience placements.

Aylesbury Youth Motor Project's staff members are a full-time Project Manager, a full-time instructor, a part time instructor, a part time technician and a self employed part time Administrator/Bookkeeper.

The staff has been specifically employed for their ability to work with young people with a wide range of behavioural and learning difficulties.
