WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

AOK Rucksack Appeal is a charity founded in early in 2015 by Sally Harvey and recognised by the Charity Commission on 2nd February.

Sally worked with the homeless for over 10 years but had to take early retirement because she had Parkinson’s disease.  Her passions for the homeless lead her and her Trustees to form the charity.  Between them they have a wealth of experience.  Sally’s lies with drug and gambling addictions and mental health; Roger has decades of financial experience; and Juliette has a degree in Psychology and other 25 years experience with addictions, mental health and domestic violence.

This expertise does not stop there because there is an abundance of experience within the Advisory team.  This includes psychiatric nurse, two addiction counsellorssolicitor on housing law, a people developer, a journalist with experience of prisoners, a nurse, and alternative therapists.  In addition we have a very worthy patron, Stephen Young, Lord of Westbury.

We are a unique charity in that we work with the major homeless agencies in getting homeless people OFF the streets, into accommodation, and back into society using a philosophy based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

The objective of the Charity is the relief of the needs of homeless people by the provision of funds, assistance, facilities, goods, services and other means of support in the Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and surrounding areas.
