Audio recordings of a special event at the Scottish Parliament hosted by Gail Ross MSP and supported by Action for M.E. are now available to listen to online.

The event recording has been split into two parts - part one and part two. 

The programme for the event featured: 

• Welcome and introductions by Gail Ross MSP
• Carol, whose daughter has M.E., shares her family’s experience
• Keith Anderson, specialist M.E. nurse, NHS Fife, highlights the need for improved access to specialist healthcare for people with M.E.
• Short film by Karen McMenzies, who has severe M.E., describing the lack of understanding she has faced from some doctors
• Katie Davis, occupational therapist, Grampian NHS, talks about working with people affected by M.E./CFS and the need for a professional support network
• Kirstie R-Mitchell, who talked about the challenges she faced in getting a diagnosis of M.E., and the difference specialist support made to her
• John Eden, Chief Exexcutive, Scottish Huntingtons, reflects on how the needs of people with M.E., and what we might learn from his charity’s work to develop training for professionals, and a national care framework
• Clare Ogden, Head of Communications and Engagement, Action for M.E., sets out the need for accelerated research investment; training and education for healthcare professionals; and the development of specialist services
• Q&A with all speakers, chaired by Gail Ross MSP

Thank you again to everyone that came along to this event, and shared their views and experience,” says Theresa Burns, our Project Coordinator for Scotland. “Since the event, a number of MSPs have been in touch to ask for further information, and we are working with some to explore how we can raise more awareness of M.E. and its impact among key decision-makers working in health and education in Scotland."
