Raising awareness of M.E. at JobCentre Plus

Date Posted: 20 Mar 2018

People with M.E. who feel able to stay in - or return to - some form of employment need support tailored to their individual needs.

One of the ways Action for M.E. has been supporting this is by raising awareness and understanding of M.E. among JobCentre Plus staff, including Work Coaches and Disability Employment Advisors.

This week, our SEE M.E. toolkit for professionals has been shared with JobCentre Plus staff across the UK, helping them to understand M.E. from their client’s unique point of view and personal experience.

This is the second time our resources have been promoted in this way, following the positive feedback we received last time, when one Disability Employment Advisor commented:

“I gained valuable knowledge in the understanding of M.E. as there has been a lot of stigma around this debilitating illness. Having an understanding of M.E. will definitely help me, our work coaches and our claimants’ journey into work. The toolkit is great, full of very useful contacts with clear steps and supporting tips.”

As well as our toolkit for professionals, Action for M.E. also offers:

  • M.E. and work, offering information and advice for people with M.E. on communicating your needs. requesting reasonable adjustments, specialist support and, if working isn’t working, leaving work well
  • An employer's guide to M.E., with advice on all aspects of recruiting and supporting people with M.E

Keep up to date with all Action for M.E. news through our websiteFacebook and Twitter.
