New PhD funding for biomedical M.E. research

Date Posted: 22 Feb 2018

Action for M.E. and the Scottish Government Chief Scientist Office are pleased to launch a joint funding call for Scottish Universities to host a PhD studentship in biomedical research into the underlying aetiology, diagnosis or treatment of M.E.

Funding of up to £90,000 for a three-year studentship is available, and it’s expected that this will cover the student’s stipend, PhD registration fees, research costs and a modest travel budget for attending scientific symposia.

Details of how to apply can be found on the Chief Scientist Office’s website; the deadline for applications is Friday 6 April 2018.

This collaboration with the Chief Scientist Office is part of Action for M.E.’s wider UK research strategy, which includes a commitment to funding at least one three-year postdoctoral or PhD studentship at any one time for projects focused on biomedical M.E. research; supporting talented scientists to develop their independent research career in biomedical M.E. research through our Clare Francis Fellowship; and proactively supporting the CFS/M.E. Research Collaborative to drive forward M.E. research, working with people affected by M.E., academics, clinicians and the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry.
