Manchester to Liverpool Bike Ride
Maggie's Memorial Ride for the Unity
Feb 24 2014
Young people from our youth club, youth workers, management board, local councillors and other supporters will be joining the NSPCC's 9th annual Manchester to Liverpool.ride. The cyclists will take the 40 mile trip along the Manchester Ship Canal and the banks of the river Mersey.
The ride will be a preparatory ride for our main ride from Hull to Liverpool over the August Bank Holiday, which has been dubbed the Margaret Thatcher Memorial Ride for the Unity Youth Club.
The idea was conceived last year when the former Prime Minister past away, as a reminder that young people in Britain, especially in the deprived parts of the North, are still lacking real opportunities to develop and fulfill their potential -a legancy of Prime Minister Thatcher's reign.
We'll be getting on our bikes for the Maggie's Memorial Ride for the Unity Youth Club cycling the 150 miles from Hull to Liverpool passing through Doncaster, Barnsley and Stockport, all areas that were dramtically effected by the de-industrialisation policies that lead to widespread disenfranchisement for the nation's young people.
The money that we're raising is part of our 'fit for the future' appeal we're using to fitness to raise money to make our buidling fit for the future as we navigate the difficult funding environement of increased austerity.
