Under The Bridge Charity Ltd. (charity number 1142592) is the charity projects arm of Tyne Bridge Housing. Based on Wilfred Street in Byker, Newcastle, NE6 1JQ, we provide a medical centre and hostel for homeless people and a workshop where volunteers and vulnerable adults can both teach and learn woodwork skills.

The Workshop takes in donations of distressed furniture and repairs them for sale in our charity shops, teaching woodwork skills to up to 20 people at any time. Pieces are stripped and repaired by hand. Some of the furniture is left with no finish so customers can wax, stain, varnish or decorate it to their taste. We have recently started to teach finishing skills, including polishing and upholstery to give professional final product.

The Workshop can be reached on 0191 2651360 for donations of furniture and any other enquiries.

We have a charity shop at 115 Heaton Park Road, NE6 5NR (Tel: 0191 2766471) on the corner of Bolingbroke Steet. We try to open it 9:30am-4pm Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri, volunteer availability allowing, so it's a good idea to phone before going down to make sure it's open.

Our other shop is on Heaton Terrace, Byker, NE6 1JR. Heaton Terrace is adjacent to Byker Morrisons petrol station. Opening times are 9:30-4pm Mon-Fri.

We're looking to expand our furniture collections & deliveries in our own vans and we're keen to take on more volunteers for the following roles: van driver (aged 21+ with driving licence) & van assistant (must be aged 21+), shop volunteer (18+) & workshop office admin (18+). We're also keen to attract experienced volunteer woodwork tutors (18+) who have a background in woodworking and who would be able to pass on skills to the participants. We have an equal opportunities policy but please bear in mind that van & shop volunteers will have to be physically fit & able to move furniture. To have a chat about volunteering please phone (0191 2651360) or email workshop@underthebridge.org.uk

Because we work with vulnerable & disadvantaged people, volunteers need to fill in our volunteers form which requires two references and complete a DBS (CRB) form with us, which we pay for.
