Step out in support of Trinity Hospice’s Nurses in 2012

Date Posted: 02 May 2012

People of all ages and abilities can get active in support of Trinity nurses in the third annual River Walk along the Thames on Sunday 1 July.

Last year’s event raised £15,000 for the charity and this year Trinity is encouraging even more people to sign up and enjoy a scenic walk rediscovering some fantastic London sights.

Event organiser Leah Bull explains “Whether people wish to walk in memory of a loved one or just enjoy a family day out – this is a fun way for the local community to make the most of London’s spectacular views whilst raising vital funds in support of our Nurses.”

The River Walk starts from Bishops Park at 10am and walkers can choose a 6km or 11.5km route along the Thames Tow path, before finishing with a BBQ reception at the Larrik Inn, Putney Bridge.

James Brown enjoyed the River Walk so much last year, he has signed up again for our 2012 event. “The River Walk is a fun and easy way to help such an amazing charity that really supports the local community. It's a great day out and the BBQ reception is a well-deserved treat at the end!  I’m really pleased to be taking part again, in memory of a dear friend who was cared for by Trinity in his last weeks. Plus, one day I might need Trinity to be there for me. This is such a worthwhile cause and together we can make sure Trinity is always here when people need to access its services."

The Trinity River Walk is just one of many exciting events being held to support its vital work. Trinity Hospice is also challenging supporters to put together teams of up to 6 people and walk 500 miles for Trinity in their ‘Walk 500’ initiative, which takes place from 18 May to 1 July. Teams can be families, groups of friends or colleagues, and everyone is encouraged to finish the challenge at the River Walk itself. Each participant will be given a pedometer to track their achievement.

Trinity’s community nurses have taken up the Walk 500 challenge. Cathy Maylin, Community Services Manager, is part of the team. She said “We wanted to take part in Walk 500 as providing the best possible care to our patients is what Trinity is all about. What could be better than a team of nurses stepping out to raise money for this fantastic cause?”

Any supporter who raises more than £150 in sponsorship at these events will be entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle or 2 tickets to Trinity’s Outdoor Cinema, where guests can watch classic films in Trinity’s gardens. Showing this year is Mamma Mia on 15 August and Back to the Future (Part 1) on 17 August. The winner can choose which film to attend.
