SHP (Single Homeless Project) was founded in 1975 by 6 homeless men. We provide a range of support services, including 500 units of accommodation, for over 6,500 people a year across 21 London boroughs.
We support a wide range of people of all ages: from those who need a brief intervention to help them live independently, to those who are living in chaos and need intensive support to achieve stability. We work with individuals who are in poverty, with little or no family support or social networks, who struggle with such issues as homelessness and rough sleeping, alcohol and drug addiction, mental ill health, and offending. We encourage them to develop independent living and employability skills to make a lasting improvement in their lives. We give tailored one-to-one support for up to two years, ensuring that our clients have a plan in place to achieve their aspirations for recovery and a better quality of life, and linking them to the appropriate services.
Our Opportunities Programme - which comprises our Education, Training and Employment programme, an Arts Programme, and the SHP Green Project (gardening, food growing & environmental awareness) - is crucial in helping our clients on their way towards recovery and independent living.
