The National Brain Appeal* is the charity dedicated to raising funds for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Over the last ten years The National Brain Appeal has raised more than £15 million for cutting edge equipment, buildings and research. Ten million people in the UK suffer from a neurological disorder, either from birth, through injury, or a slowly developing illness that occurs later in life. The National is one of the world’s leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis (MS), brain cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease and head injury. One of the charity’s current appeals is to raise £1 million for the development of a new Brain Analysis Centre which will directly benefit patients with brain cancers, Parkinson’s and Prion diseases as well as neuromuscular and neurodegenerative disorders including dementia and stroke. The Brain Analysis Centre will be a catalyst for fundamental change allowing improved surgical planning and a reduction in waiting times for examinations, procedures and diagnosis, thereby improving patient care and clinical outcomes. The rate of progress within the field depends greatly upon donations and legacies. *The National Brain Appeal is the working name of The National Hospital Development Foundation. Registered Charity No. 290173.
