With deep regret…….

Date Posted: 03 May 2016

It is with deep regret that we must announce that three more of Syria Relief’s valued family members have fallen victim to the ongoing crisis

Last week, a teacher and two students from our education projects lost their lives as a result of recent airstrikes in rural Idleb. One of the children was a student at both Syria Relief’s school and a regular attendee at our Child Friendly Spaces.

Unfortunately, news like this is not uncommon in Syria. Since the start of the academic year last August; 19 of our supported schools have suffered from aerial bombardments, either directly or in close proximity of our premises.

students and 10 of our school staff have been killed by these aerial assaults, and another 23 of our students have been injured.

The safety of our staff and students remains our priority. Syria Relief has active measures in place to mitigate the risk to all our project teams and beneficiaries. With these measures in place Syria Relief will continue its humanitarian and development work on the ground which is desperately needed.

Despite these disheartening statistics, it’s vital that humanitarian organisations and advocates of philanthropic efforts are not discouraged in continuing their work in Syria. Without humanitarian involvement in Syria, incidents like this will only increase and any efforts of development will become futile.
