Knoticat Newsletter - Spring 2012

Date Posted: 01 Mar 2012

Dear Friends of Knoticat,

The sailing season is about to start with Knoticat being put back into the water on
Thursday 15 March at 2pm after its winter maintenance which this year was carried
out by some of the Cobbs Quay professionals aided by some hard working volunteer
crew including our new boat engineer Derick.

The skippers underwent their triennial First Aid Courses at the Poole Harbour Sea
Survival School on 1 March and are now qualified to Maritime and Coastguard
Agency standards. Two Skippers` sail training days are scheduled for 26 and 29
March.

During the Winter our new Webmaster Michael Meaden has been modernising our
existing website: www.sportsforum.org.uk and building a new website specifically for
Knoticat: www.sailing4all.org the new site will come on line shortly.

We shall be having a volunteers` day to polish the bright-work plus clean and tidy the interior and exterior during the week 19 to 23 March. All volunteers are welcome to come along and help out, all cleaning materials will be provided. Monday 19 March
is the preferred date for the work party but if the weather prediction is poor an
alternative date will be published on the sports forum website, so please check before setting out.

We now have a new secretary, Rosalind Green who can be contacted on 07748688999 for general enquiries about Sports Forum activities.

Bookings for sailing are being handled by our Chairperson Ros Probert
on 07 88 99 70 70 2 Trips this year are being retimed to be in phase with the new
Twin Sails Bridge being in operation. Typical timings will be Pick up at Poole
QuayBoat Haven at 1200 returning at 1530.

Those who have volunteered for crew or helper duty are already on our database.
Those wishing to volunteer for the first time are asked to contact our secretary
Rosalind Green on her number 07748688999 she will arrange to have contact details
added to our database.

Volunteer boat operatives and general hands who wish to take an active part as crew in the operation of the boat on an irregular basis should determine which specific sailing date they wish to participate in and call Rosalind Green on 07748688999.

Rosalind will supply contact details of the skipper for that date who should then be
contacted no sooner than 48 hours before the sailing to agree to the crew list for that
particular day. The skipper, having the client list will then give appropriate joining
instructions for crew. Unless volunteers are established as permanent crew members,
individual applications will be necessary for each sailing. The boat is limited to 11/12
persons thus it is necessary to determine client numbers plus permanent crew numbers before taking supplementary crew.
