TV Star Tommy Walsh helps out at our new Community Café

Date Posted: 03 Apr 2014

Celebrity builder Tommy lent a helping hand to Rhythms of Life volunteers who are remodelling the Café in Matthias Road. The Café will provide hot meals five days a week when it opens in May.

Tommy  gave  the volunteers some invaluable tips on how to renovate the café, he also identified fixtures and fittings which can be sold on to catering suppliers to provide much needed cash for the charity.

The Community Café will be a place where homeless people can take a break from life on the streets. There will also be the opportunity to gain important life skills as Rhythms of Life are providing  literacy, IT and CV writing classes.

Tommy who lives in South Hackney  said : “ I was delighted to be able to visit the Rhythms of Life Café today and meet with the volunteers who are doing a great job getting the Café ready. It’s a big task but I have seen worse! I was pleased to be able to help out with some ‘Tricks of the Trade.‘ When they have given the café a good clean and got the kitchen operational  the homeless in Hackney will be able to look forward to enjoying some hot meals when the café opens in May.”

Andrew Faris,  Chief Executive of Rhythms of Life,  said : “It was fantastic that Tommy was able to visit us today and offer us some great tips on how to decorate the café! It was a welcome boost for our volunteers who have been working hard to be able to meet him.The new Café will enable us to expand our services in one of the poorest boroughs in London where demand for our services is the highest.”
