Ovarian Cancer Action works towards stopping women dying from ovarian cancer by funding world-class scientific research resulting to innovative treatment and progressive solutions. Treatment for ovarian cancer is not as advanced as treatment for other, like breast and prostate cancer.
More than 7,000 cases are diagnosed every year thus making ovarian cancer UK’s most deadly gynaecological disease. Today, the disease kills a woman every two hours in the UK and those diagnosed with ovarian cancer have only a 46% chance of being alive in the next five years.
Working across the UK, the charity aims to raise awareness around the deadly disease and is hoping to spread the word so fewer women die ovarian cancer.
The charity’s work is made possible through voluntary donations from the general public and more. The centre’s main focus is to substantially improve treatment options for women in the UK and consequently to impact survival rates, which are amongst the worst in the developed world. By raising awareness of the symptoms, women will be able to act and GPs to intervene at the earliest possible stage, thus giving the best potential for survival.
Ovarian Cancer Action Researches drive new and more targeted treatments from pre-clinical studies, to clinical trials and into gynaecological clinics across the UK.
Through their researches, Ovarian Cancer Action seeks for better treatments and aims to reduce the number of women who die from the disease. Their mission is to enable understanding of the risk factors, symptoms and treatment options for ovarian cancer so that women can access the best possible treatment path.
