We have need of volunteers to work with our disabled clients. They will have learned the adaptive hardware/software to provide them with access. We want the volunteers to work with clients to help them learn IT skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets, desk top publishing and the like), and to learn to manage their computers.
The skills we require (in order of priority) are
- The ability to listen: the job takes some concentration, and a willingness not to tell the client 14 ways of doing some job.
- Reasonable IT skills
We are very happy if the volunteers do themselves have disabilities, and are familiar with any adaptive kit, but this is not a requirement.
The work is at our Colchester Institute centre (Thursdays and Fridays), or within a 40 mile radius of Colchester (any day by arrangement).
