Registered Charity Number: 1142963
Migrant Voice (MV) is a national, migrant-led organisation that works to strengthen the voice, participation and representation of migrants in the media and public fora, so as to encourage a more balanced, well-informed and inclusive debate on migration in Britain. We support migrants to make their voices heard in order to counteract xenophobia and hostility, and to develop greater understanding and support for migrantsí human rights.
Migrant Voice currently has regional hubs in London, Birmingham and Glasgow. Membership is open to all migrants and non migrants wanting to engaging in creating positive change. To get involved in the UK Migrant Voices for Change network, please contact us.
Providing training and building capacity: Migrant Voice delivers training and mentoring sessions on photography, basic film-making skills, writing articles, social media, effective messaging, interview techniques, and pitching stories to journalists and media outlets. These sessions give our members the tools to create their own varied content in order to inform, debate, educate, and campaign around issues affecting migrants.
Engaging in media work: Migrant Voice acts as a liaison between our members, media outlets and civil society, providing opportunities for migrant representation in the public debate on migration. Our members have made their voices heard on Channel 4, BBC Radio West Midlands and the Daily Record in Scotland, among others.
Facilitating dialogue: Migrant Voice organises public events to encourage dialogue between migrants, the media and the British public around questions of migration, including an annual conference. Our conference foregrounds an inclusive debate on migration, examines public attitudes and media representations of migrants and raises alternate voices and messages.
Migrant Voice staff, members and volunteers also participate in a variety of international conferences and forums, which address the issues and challenges of migration and social inclusion.
