MARATHON RUNNER GETS ‘BIG FOR HIS BOOTS’ FOR HOME- START WEYWATER
Paul Williams, a train driver from Beacon Hill, is busy training for the Virgin London Marathon on April 22nd to raise much needed funds for Home-Start WeyWater. Paul is clocking up the miles training on local roads and sends regular blogs for the scheme newsletter. After visiting a sports shop recently for new running shoes he was advised that his feet may “grow 2 sizes bigger after running 26 miles” Hopefully, with rest, they will return to their normal size again after the event!
Home- Start WeyWater is extremely grateful to Paul for his enthusiasm and determination in training for this fundraising event and hopes it will raise much needed funds for the local scheme. It costs £360 to register for the marathon so they need plenty of donations for it to actually benefit families in our community.
Home Start is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer support, friendship and practical help to young families with a child under 5. They visit families in their own homes to prevent family crisis and breakdown. It costs approximately £1000 to train and support a volunteer in this work and the scheme has seen a significant increase in family referrals over the last few months.
