Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) has worked with individuals, families and communities across Glasgow since 1965, tackling the causes and effects of alcohol misuse. We believe that health and wellbeing is vital to individuals, family relationships and communities, and recognise that alcohol is an issue that can affect everyone, regardless of their background.

“See, from the minute I walked in that door, honestly…. I just felt valued. I felt accepted…I never forgot GCA. You move on. But no, you don’t forget. It saved my life.”

“I always knew deep down I had a problem with alcohol but working in a high pressured sales job for 18 years gave me the excuse I needed to continue drinking. Over the years I had lost friends and opportunities through drinking and I continued on this destructive path for many years...I found GCA and I made the call that changed my life. I was full of fear in the real world..... I attended counselling for about nine months and gradually I began to realise that I could cope with life without alcohol and the fear of living began to subside. Without alcohol I started to make good decisions, learned new coping skills, learned to accept myself and find out who I really am.

It took five years to restore my belief in me and I so wanted to repay GCA for giving me my life back. Without them I would be dead. I applied for a post as a volunteer counsellor and was accepted. I have never looked back.” GCA former service user and volunteer.
