For the next month or so I am going to be based on the 4th floor of the London Clinic in Marylebone having a Bone Marrow Transplant. The aim of the transplant is to treat (and hopefully cure) the multiple myeloma (a cancer of the bone marrow) that I was diagnosed with in 2009. I am in the very fortunate position of having a perfect match with my sister Sophy, who is kindly donating her stem cells for the procedure.
Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. They are helping myeloma patients live longer and with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development and access to new treatments, while helping patients and their families cope with everything a diagnosis of myeloma brings. Myeloma UK receives no government funding and relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising activities.
Over the past 5 years, I have benefited greatly from the work of Myeloma UK which has helped to keep me fit and healthy and able to live a full and rewarding life. I would like to contribute to the cause and I will be aiming to rack up as many miles as possible on the exercise bike and foot while I am based in the Transplant Unit on the 4th Floor of the London Clinic. It may not be the Tour de France but it will motivate me to keep fit and active during my stay. I will be joined on ‘Le Tour’ by friends and family and would be grateful for any contributions you can make.
