I have been a trustee of the Sebakwe Black Rhino Trust for over 10 years.
The Sebakwe Black Rhino Trust was formed in 1989 to help save the black rhino in Africa. The Trust supports the Midlands Black Rhino Trust which has a wildlife Conservancy in Zimbabwe where the rhino are free to roam an area of 150,000 acres and the remianing five black rhino have been dehorned and are protected from poachers by our Conservator and his rhino guards.
The Trust has built the Sebakwe Conservation and Education Centre which has promoted environmental conservation and sustainable development through its educational programmes for the six schools in the Conservancy and the local community. We have assisted the schools with a scholarship project and provision of books and school furniture as well as building materials. Recently we have sunk two boreholes to provide schoolchildren with clean drinking water.
Due to the unsettled political and economic situation in Zimbabwe, donations are urgently needed to continue our education programmes and to provide anti-poaching patrols for the protection of the black rhino.
