My Profile

Hi, my name is Lydia McGivern. I am currently studying for a Psychology degree at Bristol University (second year) and am actively involved with a range of charitable activities in Bristol including: fundraising with RAG - city centre donation collections for the Meningitis Research Foundation; Jazzhands – weekly group visits to local nursing homes to sing and speak with residents (which I have been invited to lead next year); University Psychology Committee – I have recently been elected President having been involved in a range of social/charitable activities over the past two years including introducing and organising Operation Christmas Child ; Alzheimer’s Society Memory Cafes – meeting and supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s. Whilst at school I was on the Charities Committee, visited residents at a local nursing home and helped at Three Ways School for children with special needs.

I have been involved with voluntary work and charitable fundraising since school days, because I enjoy doing work and activities that have some real social value and where I believe I can help others in particularly vulnerable situations or who are less well off. Also I enjoy the social aspects of this work and find that I like and get on very well with people who have these similar interests, particularly through my activities at school and university. I am also now very keen to gain as much experience as possible in a range of different charities and situations, and go on to pursue a career in the Voluntary Sector.  I would be very pleased to hear of any volunteering or work experience opportunities available in the period 01/07/2013 to 26/08/2013. Thank you.
