Kendal Rescue Round
November 2012 and two intrepid Kendal Mountain Rescue team members, Dave Howarth and Kath Jackson, with the support of their team mates and friends, completed a 24 hour (and 7 minute!!), 180km journey by bike, on foot and in kayaks around their team's area. Two years on in 2014 and they were set to go again for Rescue Round 2 but a month prior Kath got knocked off her bike and RR2 got put on hold...
Better late than never and bigger and badder than ever, Rescue Round 2 is back!
Starting at the opening ceremony of Kendal Mountain Festival on the evening of Thursday 16th November 2017 Kath and Dave will be riding, running and paddling to visit all our fellow Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association friends; Kirkby Stephen, Penrith, Patterdale, Keswick, Cockermouth, Wasdale, Duddon and Furness, Coniston and Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Teams! They'll cover in excess of 290 kilometres and nearly 6000 metres of ascent, see 15 hours of darkness each night they're out and brave whatever the November weather can throw at them. They're going to need all the support they can get from their team mates and volunteer friends from across the Lake District to make it back to KMF base camp before the end of the festival.
Please, please come and give us a massive send off from the Mountainfest opening ceremony in Kendal town centre, follow our progress which will be GPS tracked by Open Tracking at KMF basecamp... And most importantly please donate. We're raising money for the Westmorland Gazette supported campaign to fund a replacement control vehicle for Kendal Mountain Search and Rescue Team. Please give what you can to help us keep our team rescue ready 24/7/365.
