I have suffered with glaucoma for the last fifteen years caused by blood vessels constricting my optic nerve (this was because I was born with a birthmark). A few years ago after loosing part of my sight I met Pieter Gouws who is based at the Conquest Hospital, Hastings, East Sussex. He has operated on my eye three times in the last six years, with new innovations in eye surgery. My last op was in April 2012, hopefully this will be my last and which thankfully will save my sight. Pieter Gouws went to Bolivia soon after my operation to help the people out there with their eye care, I was so inspired to help this cause, that I have agreed to ride my bike for a 12 hour time trial on 2 September - this is something that I have never done before, but the achievement at the end is to see how many miles I can end up with at the end of the 12 hours.
