My Auntie Lisa-Marie died of Marfan Syndrome in June 2008 at the age of 27. Lisa was so young and had so much to give, she always lived life to the fullest.
In memory of Lisa my family and I are raising money for the Marfans Association UK by running in the B&Q Eastleigh 10K Road Race at the end of March. In doing so we are hoping to raise awareness of the marfans condition and all of the risks it carries.
For those of you that don't know Marfan Syndrome is a condition that affects the body's connective tissues; this includes the eyes, heart, lungs and skeleton. Marfans is usually genetic but in some cases spontaneous.
Through the work undertaken by the Marfan Association UK, much has been learned about Marfan Syndrome and medical treatments have greatly improved, making the lives of marfan patients better. However there is still currently NO CURE for marfan sufferers which is why we need to raise as much money as possible for the association, so we can help to eventually find one.
