Forward Facing Ltd
Registered Charity Number: 1142193
Forward Facing is a registered charity that provides creative and fun activities for children and young people with long term or life limiting conditions or who have experienced bereavement; including their siblings and wider family.
We make memories, build confidence, and support families facing difficult times.
We do this through workshops, Memory Making Days and fun days out for the whole family. We also hold special events for parents and carers.
We work with people of all ages and abilities and across gender, ethnicity at schools, colleges, youth centres, hospices, hospital’s and local community facilities, concentrating on Brighton and Hove, and into East and West Sussex.
The Forward Facing charity was founded by Tasleen Carstairs. It was through her own personal loss that meant Tasleen understood the difficulties faced by parents, families and friends when coping with a loss. She decided to create something positive to help people who needed all the positivity they could get in such a time of need. She worked tirelessly for the charity over the years and it touched so many people’s lives in the process.
In December 2013 Tasleen contracted a very aggressive form of cancer and despite her battle, even leaving the hospital to attend our annual ‘Memory Making Day’ event; she sadly passed away in May 2014. During one of the final visits with Tasleen, whilst she was staying in the Martlets hospice, we were looking at some of the professional photos taken at the last MMDay. She expressed to Candice her sadness at the fact she didn’t believe the charity would continue its work without her. It was then that Candice Konig made a promise to her to carry on the good work in her name and since that day she has taken over as Project Manager for the charity and helped it to grow and expand with the help of the charities trustees.
Forward Facing is a charity that works predominantly with children and young adults with long term illness and life limiting conditions but is unique in that we focus also on supporting all members of the family. We recognise that long-term illness and life limiting conditions have an exhausting effect on all family members so run events for mothers, fathers, carers and siblings.
At Forward Facing we also work to support young children, young adults and families who have suffered tragedy.
We work diligently to get to know their children and families on a personal level. The interests of the children and young adults that are supported are of huge importance to the charity; we tailor our events to the families.
For those who seldom have time for themselves, we offer an opportunity to take some time away from the troubles and tears involved with these young people who are living with these life limiting illnesses, whether it be the children themselves or their parents at their bedsides. The charity hosts a multitude of events and feature days for everyone to enjoy. The charity is unique as it does not focus solely on one demographic, it branches out to anyone who needs it and has always worked to create a positive difference in people’s lives, to make memories and to build confidence.
Forward Facing is a charity that is incredibly close to Candice and all the trustees heart.
