The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) is a registered charity established in 2005.

Mission Statement: To preserve the indigenous Dartmoor Pony from extinction and to maintain ists presence on Dartmoor, thus protecting our heritage for future generations.

Aims: 

  • To protect and preserve the Dartmoor Pony as one of the recognised emblems of Dartmoor and for its value to tourism.
  • To utilise the Dartmoor Pony's superb temperament as a platform for learning through innovative and socially inclusive educational programmes.
  • To provide the general public with education and information of the special heritage of the Dartmoor Pony.
  • To increase opportunities for visitors to develop an appreciation of Dartmoor's cultural heritage by providing practical experiences in conservation.
  • To encourage the use of the native Dartmoor Pony for conservation management.
  • To seek public support and financial sponsorship to ensure the survival of the Dartmoor Pony and its future welfare.
  • To work with all statutory / advisory bodies and the moorland farmers, to make the Dartmoor Pony more valued and valuable.
  • To monitor and support the control of the number of indigenous Dartmoor ponies.
