Comfort Rwanda & Congo was established in 1999 to help and encourage genocide survivors on their road to recovery after the tiny east African country of Rwanda was devastated by the worst genocide the world has ever seen. Starting on April 7th 1994 more than one million Rwandans were systematically and brutally massacred in 100 days, often enduring unspeakable atrocities before being killed or left to die. Most of those who survived endured or witnessed horrific events; the murder of family and friends, rape, beatings, being buried or burned alive or hiding for weeks in latrine pits or swamps.  Orphan- and widowhood, trauma, poverty, homelessness, physical injury, displacement, division, isolation and missed education are a few of the consequences of this tragic event. Now known as Comfort Rwanda & Congo, in view of expanding our work to include D.R. Congo, we work together with Rwandan and Congolese partners and are committed to countering these consequences and bringing a hope and a future to the people of Rwanda & Congo. Over the years Comfort Rwanda & Congo has built up excellent relationships with partners in Rwanda; The Living Church, Good News International, and Solace Ministries as well as Comfort Congo just over the border in North Kivu, D.R. Congo. This enables us to discuss funding needs, view the effectiveness of projects, plan for the long term future, meet emergencies if they arise and target the most needy.

Current projects include:

  • Street Kids Rescue programme
  • Support for primary and secondary education
  • Vocational Training for ex-street children and orphans
  • Building Schools
