The Church of Scotland Guild has as its aim, ' to invite and encourage both women and men to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and to enable them to express their faith in worship, prayer and action.' This is carried out in a number of ways; through congregational groups; the wider work of the church through support for a range of projects; co-operation with other churches and in bodies like the Women's National Commission and Scottish Women's Convention. The Guild offers opportunities for a Christian perspective and influence on current issues. Training events and programmes are offered to develop members' gifts and equip them for these responsibilities.

This inspirational movement has been around for over 125 years – originally a way to harness the energies of the women in the church, it is now an organisation of committed women and men with a global reach.

With some 25,000 members, it has made an impact around the world through its Project Partnership Scheme which, since 1997, has supported 36 areas of work alongside its project partners. Impacting on people on every continent of the world, except Antarctic, as well as those in the UK, this scheme has ensured members are praying for, learning about and raising money for the most marginalised in society – those affected by poverty, drug abuse, homelessness, civil war and genocide.

Alongside the national project work, Guilds round the country support and take part in community initiatives; making a difference in their own local area.

Membership of the Scottish Women’s Convention ensures the Guild has a voice into the Scottish Parliament and reporting directly to the Church’s General Assembly ensures the Church listens to what the Guild has to say – in recent times ensuring that the issue of people trafficking has been firmly placed in front of its members.
