CHIVA Africa is a charity, which provides affordable, sustainable, on the ground support to help local healthcare professionals develop the practical skills they need to use antiretroviral medication in children and manage HIV as a chronic disease. The programme was introduced in 2004, when the anti-retroviral roll-out across South Africa began. CHIVA Africa has concentrated most of its resources in the province of KwaZulu Natal (KZN), the epicentre of the epidemic. We depend on UK medical professionals who each spend at least a week, twice a year in hospitals and clinics around KZN, sharing their expertise.
