Cast On for The Big Knitathon!

On the 16th of November, knitters all over the UK will be wielding wool for a massive 'knitathon' fundraising event to raise money for homelessness charity The Big Issue Foundation

Last year over 1,400 knitters got their needles out for the charity, and this year they are hoping even more people will join in to try and create the world’s biggest hand-knitted blanket!

Taking part is easy. Whether you are an expert knitter or just learning, all you need to do is raise some funds for the charity whilst you knit 6" squares in any colour, any pattern and any wool. You can do your knitting in a group event in your area, or hold your own knitting party at home. After your squares are done, send them in to The Big Issue and they will add them to the blanket to make you part of their world record attempt!

Crochet fans should note that being a world record knitting attempt they will not be able to accept crochet squares, but knitting squares is pretty easy so it’s a great way for people to learn to knit from scratch or to try out some new stitches and expand their repertoire.
