Raising Money for Soundworks
27 MILES. 12 HOURS. DAVID BAXTER vs. THE BRECON BEACONS
Jun 08 2014
On the 8th of June, 2014, Arts Active’s very own Dave Baxter will be pushed to the limits in a 27 mile trek across the Brecon Beacons, as part of TrekFest. Why has he agreed to take on such an ordeal? It’s to raise money for the Arts Active Soundworks project, which enables adults with physical and learning difficulties to make music at St David’s Hall – The National Concert Hall of Wales.
Soundworks is a music project for adults coping with physical and learning difficulties. This is achieved simply through music with little talking or instruction, with an emphasis on enjoyment. Led by specialist musicians along with guest players the sessions are fun, informal and hugely satisfying for the participants.
The workshops also provide an opportunity for support workers to develop skills in using music to build up their clients’ levels of social interaction, communication skills and confidence, and of course enjoying music making at the National Concert Hall of Wales.
We’re trying to raise £1000 to purchase some instruments and equipment, pay for more players and also put on a special Soundworks performance as part of the Welsh proms for our Soundworks participants and others. Every little bit really does help so please sponsor Dave and help him support this fantastic project.
