We give a lifetime of support to soldiers and veterans from the British Army, and their immediate families, when they are in need. We make grants to individuals through their Regiments and Corps and support a wide range of specialist charities that sustain the British Army ‘family’, both at home and around the world.
We take pride in being responsive, making a difference at a critical point in peoples’ lives. We have been doing this since 1944, working with veterans of every conflict, and we envisage continuing doing so for the ‘long haul’ – supporting all future generations of our soldiers and their dependents.
Last year we provided nearly 5,000 individual grants at a cost of £3.3 million, with a further £3.2 million provided to support other specialist service charities. We simply couldn’t do this without the support of the public, veterans and serving soldiers. Legacies from our generous supporters last year accounted for just under £3 million of the Charity’s income. Our eldest beneficiary was 105, and our youngest was six months.
But in the future we want to do much more. Our soldiers face many uncertain challenges; most will flourish but others will need to call on us to support them as they continue to serve, or as they transition to civilian life. The complexity and cost of supporting serving and retired soldiers and their dependants is rising steadily, year on year. This means we are more dependent than ever on the generosity of our supporters.
Please contact Georgia Outteridge if you feel that you could help support these courageous men and women for the many years to come.
